I showed this revealing documentary to my History students the week the Monica Lewinsky scandal broke.
For further information, I recommend the books The Secret Life of Bill Clinton: The Unreported Stories, by Ambrose Evans-Pritchard; High Crimes and Misdemeanors: The Case Against Bill Clinton, by Ann Coulter; Compromised: Clinton, Bush, and the CIA: How the Presidency was Co-opted by the CIA, by Terry Reed & John Cummings; White Out: The CIA, Drugs and the Press, by Alexander Cockburn and Jeffrey St. Clair; and Partners in Power: The Clintons and Their America, by Roger Morris.
In 1992, Bill and Hillary Clinton appeared on 60 Minutes to deny the Gennifer Flowers affair involving Bill Clinton. The interview is famous for the quote where Hillary Clinton defended her husband, Bill Clinton, amid allegations of infidelity. She stated, "I'm not sitting here some little woman standing by my man like Tammy Wynette," but clarified that she was staying because she loved and respected her husband. The comment was a reference to Wynette's 1968 hit song, "Stand By Your Man".
Context: The interview was Clinton's first joint appearance with Bill on 60 Minutes to address the accusations by Gennifer Flowers during Bill's 1992 presidential campaign.
Significance: The statement was intended to assert her independence while also showing her support for her husband. It was part of a strategy to deal with the scandal and allow Bill to continue his campaign.
What was not shown and edited out of the interview was when a falling light almost hit the Clintons when they appeared to deny the Gennifer Flowers affair involving Bill Clinton discussed in The Clinton Chronicles.
"If I am not telling the truth, may God strike me dead."
And then He acted to flatten the bitch.
